• contain academic articles, often reporting results of research studies
• authors are professors, scholars or similar experts
• each journal is normally on one subject such as:

  botany, chemistry, sociology etc
  

• each article usually includes

footnotes/references/bibliographies

• these journals can also be known as

Popular magazines

• glossy magazines usually published weekly or monthly
• articles may be on current events and /or a wide range of topics
• contain many illustrations, photos and advertisements
• authors are professional journalists or freelance writers

Sports Illustrated

Newspapers

• contain news/current events
• can be locally, nationally or internationally known such as:

Portsmouth Herald
