Zeke's Guide: finding what you need in the UNH Library
How do I cite what I find?
When writing a research paper, you are expected to provide insight into a topic
AND
at the same time, you need to acknowledge the information
(ideas, data, specific quotes) you have gathered from other sources.Giving credit is an important aspect of academic integrity.
Failure to give credit is plagiarism. A fuller explanation of plagiarism can be found on the Indiana University Bloomington Writing Tutorial Services web pages.
Different style manuals exist to help you account for your source.
Style manuals will also give you information on the mechanics of writing, grammar and organization.
Your professor will probably tell you the style manual he/she wants you to use.
The most well known style manuals are kept at the
Reference Desk, Dimond Library and branches.
These include
- Turabian, Kate L. A manual for writers of term papers...(known as the Turabian manual...)
- Chicago manual of style
- American Psychological Association publication manual (known as the APA manual...)
- MLA handbook for writers of research papers...
You can also go to Bibliography formats on the Reference Department Homepage
to see examples fron style manuals online.
