What is a citation?


It’s the information which identifies a book, journal article or electronic source.

Examples:

1. Mitchell, Margaret. Gone with the wind. New York: Macmillan, 1936.

this book citation includes:

author(s) names Mitchell, Margaret
title of book Gone with the wind
place of publication New York
publisher Macmillan
year 1936


2. Dyer, Thomas G. "A Yankee Scarlett O'Hara in Atlanta." History Today, 49 (1999): 29-35.

this journal citation includes:

author(s) names         Dyer, Thomas G.
article title         A Yankee Scarlett O'Hara in Atlanta.
journal name         History Today
volume         49
date         1999
pages         29-35
